In March 1999, Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance was granted permission by the Ministry of Finance, which was the first Japanese property insurance company to acquire business permit in Taiwan. In August 1999, Taipei branch was officially launched as a property insurance business. At that time, the office was located in the Hung Kuo Building on the Tun Hua North Road. In September 2001, Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance Taipei Branch moved to its present location. In October 2001, it merged with Sumitomo Marine and Fire Insurance, and became “Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. Taipei Branch”

With the support of the Head Office, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Taipei Branch deals not only with general insurance business, but also provides risk consulting services to help clients build up effective risk management programs.

In September 2005, Head Office purchased 100% shares of the Mingtai Marine and Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. , which was the second largest insurer in the Taiwanese non-life insurance market. This deal enabled our company to formally enter the native Taiwanese business market. The Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Taipei Branch and Mingtai can share their service networks and experience with each other, and provide more complete products and service for all clients in Taiwan from now on.
